LSU plays Alabama this weekend and Ohio State hosts Penn State in a couple weeks, so things will sort themselves out, but Clemson remains undefeated and largely untested and still find themselves outside the top four. Oklahoma is three spots behind Georgia despite losing to No. 16 Kansas State on the road while Georgia lost to 4-5 SC at home. And the committee wasted minor time in doing the job everyone into a froth by ranking defending champion Clemson at No. five, below in the same way undefeated Ohio Condition, LSU, Alabama and Penn Condition. Surprisingly, that wasn't the case, though. "Now, Clemson's coming on and playing its best football, but after Week 10, the committee thought (the Nittany Lions) were a notch above (Clemson)". Two, they have the defending national champion Clemson Tigers ranked fifth, which means they would not be in the four-team playoff now.

Penn State (8-0) can play the strength-of-victory card knowing they beat No. 14 MI (7-2), No. 18 Iowa (6-2) and have a date with No. 17 Minnesota (8-0) this weekend. So following the announcement, College Football Playoff Selection Committee chairman, Rob Mullens discussed the thought process and how everything came about.

Ohio State and Penn State face off on November 23.

"I'm sure it fires them up", N.C. State coach Dave Doeren said of the committee's initial ranking. But what's interesting is that with Penn State at No. 4 - the reason was the schedule.

"When you look at Penn State's résumé, with wins over (No. 15) MI and (No. 18) Iowa, those are marquee wins", said committee chairman Rob Mullens, who is also Oregon's athletic director. Moving forward, Penn State will face another handful of tough teams.

Clemson is the second favorite, following closely behind Alabama and Ohio State, in Bovada sportsbook. Up to this point, Clemson's signature win on the season is a 24-10 victory over an under-performing Texas A&M squad. "I'm not going to shy away from that; that's just a matter of fact".
