Trump predicts report on origins of Russia probe will be 'historic'

The New York Times reported Friday that investigators for Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz made no finding of anti-Trump bias on the part of then-FBI Director James Comey and top officials Peter Strzok and Andrew McCabe in ordering a wiretap on former Trump adviser Carter Page.

President Trump, who has long attacked as a "hoax" and a "witch hunt" the FBI's investigation into ties between Russian Federation and his 2016 presidential campaign, immediately touted news reports about the allegations to assert that the FBI had tried to "overthrow the presidency".

CNN reports, "Some witnesses who have been interviewed in Horowitz's investigation have said they expect the inspector general to find mistakes in the FBI's handling of the FISA process, but that those mistakes do not undermine the premise for the FBI's investigation".

After the news broke on "The Situation Room with Wolf Blitzer", it was completely ignored on "Out Front with Erin Burnett", "Cuomo Prime Time", and "CNN Tonight with Don Lemon".

The allegation against the lawyer is contained in a draft of Inspector General Michael Horowitz's report analyzing how the Federal Bureau of Investigation obtained FISA warrants on Page.

The lawyer in question is accused of fudging the document related to the FBI's Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act court warrant application to surveil Carter Page in 2016.

Horowitz will release the report December 9, and testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee two days later.

"This is exactly what people close to the president have been saying, that the FBI committed wrongdoing in starting this investigation", said CNN's Manu Raju.

"This is more of the same", Page, a foreign policy adviser for President Donald Trump's 2016 campaign, told Fox Business' Maria Bartiromo. "Personally, I think it goes all the way. It really was a dark cloud hanging over the campaign until the election in November of 2016, through the transition and going on years now into the early years of President Trump's first administration". He will also sharply criticize as careless one of the F.B.I. case agents in NY handling the matter, they said.
